The Contender Season 5 was brought back by Epix Entertainment. We created the entire social media campaign content. From instagram videos to facebook stories we created several lines of media designed to recap each episode as if the campaign was live even though episode was shot months ago.

THE FLAT EARTH

THE FOURTH PHASE

Iconic snowboarder Travis Rice and friends embark on a multi-year mission to follow the North Pacific Gyre’s flow. As Rice and the crew experience the highs and lows of a journey unlike any previously attempted, cutting-edge cinematography captures some of the world’s most remote environments bringing breathtaking scenery and thrilling action to viewers worldwide.

MICROSOFT "MIXED REALITY" EXPERIENCE

VR Director | 360 Effects | Custom Install

A start to finish project, we helped Microsoft refine their script and connect other experiences within their over all experience. To acquire the images in the geometry Microsoft required a custom camera rig had to be made. We used three specifically placed Red Weapon 6K cameras. The post production pipe line was also interesting with maintaining the 12K and 8k masters.

STARWARS "FORCE AWAKENS"

The video was made to mark the digital release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Jedi performers are shown on the 152nd floor of the iconic building – battling at 550 meters – and were captured by aerial film crews.

The latest installment of the series has a connection to the United Arab Emirates, as filming took place in two locations in Abu Dhabi in May of 2014. Abu Dhabi stands in for Jakku, a frontier desert planet in the Outer Rim Territories, where the character Rey is first seen.

For any non-Star Wars fans, the video also gives a little glimpse inside Burj Khalifa – which is 828 meters tall.

WE ARE BLOOD

Mountain Dew Green Label Films in association with Brain Farm presents… We Are Blood is a modern day skate epic featuring Paul Rodriguez and other top skateboarders as they travel the globe pushing the limits of what’s possible on a board and four wheels while celebrating the unconditional bond created by the simple act of skateboarding. ENDER'S GAME

Comic Con is always a sight to be seen. This year was no different, we constructed a 40,000 square foot event that took 5 different city permits. I was in charge of all the digital screens throughout the event. I created several graphics for the event as well as helped install and set up projections, in addition I also created the futuristic HGTV channel that was playing when audiences entered the event. I also filmed and photographed several parts of the event and later when were nominated for a Key Art Award in Experimental Marketing I cut this video together for our nomination.

BLACK OR WHITE

It was a lot of fun helping with the promotional videos for Jacques Lemans during the shoot of “Black & White”. They have announce a signature line of watches with Kevin Costner and are starting their North American marketing campaign. Creating the opening CG watch animation was especially fun when I got to sign Kevin Costner’s name.

PRETTY SWEET

“Pretty Sweet” comes after the likes of other Girl(ish) skate films like “Yeah Right” and more recently Lakai’s “Fully Flared”.

It is always a lot of fun working with Ty. Creatively we are always pushing the boundaries of in camera and in post VFX. This film was no different, from making cones dance to fake car hits. “Pretty Sweet” had quite the laundry list of VFX shots to get through.

On top of the “Pretty Sweet”, line-up this is a “Girl” video after all so you can expect more special effects and silly shenanigans as well as two comical cameos which are always fun. Lots of tech and good times permeate this video, some recurring themes are ollieing out of anything, 270’s out and boardslides on rails you need to pop out of.

THE BIBLE

The Bible was a very interesting project to work on. For being a very large show everyone was allowed to wear multiple hats. I was the post production manager for the LA offices and I also cut a few promotional pieces that were used in marketing around the country. Most notably played on the jumbo-tron in Time Square, NY.

This was a very technical and athletic spot for Red Bull. We had to create special camera arrays and mounts for the stereo capture. We also added in stereo effects and delivery.

SOFIA RICHIE - IG

Directing the spot for Instagram and RayBan was a lot of fun. Sofia was fantastic to work with and really brought a lot of creativity and energy. It was difficult to figure out what to do in 15 seconds but we came away with a very fun piece.

SNOOP DOGG - BET AWARDS

Work with Snoop is very interesting. For this project I shot about two hours of footage and then cut it down into a logical sense to be played before Snoop’s entrance at the BET Awards. The rising take off sound is when he was brought on to stage and then the background was played while he did his first set.

UNITED AIRLINES - "HEART"

Working on “Heart” for United Airlines was a very special and once in a life time experience. I had the pleasure of working with Jamie Caliri. Jamie’s art is always so inspiring and moving it really was fun to see the creative process and to help with some of the final composites and color correction workflow.

ABOUT ME

Benjamin H. Bernard

Benjamin is a VFX artist, VR Filmmaker, Web Developer and Consultant with experience in all aspects of production and post-production. He has worked on everything from micro-budget trailers, commercials, documentaries, music videos as well as over-the-top budgeted blockbuster films. He is passionate about creating effects-driven movies that are lead by strong storylines with attention to every detail.

With his own one-stop production & post house, BBD Studios, Benjamin offers turn-key solutions for high-quality filming and effects with minimized cost to the film and entertainment industry. He has a vast knowledge of camera equipment, data and technology and is known for being a technical guru of sorts. As a VFX artist, he specializes in 2D & 3D Compositing, 2D & 3D CGI, 2D & 3D Color Correction, Skin Retouching / Enhancement, 3D Set Extensions, 3D Camera Tracking & Match Moves, 2D-to-3D conversion, 3D Corrections / Alignment, 3D R&D, 360 Video Stitching and Parallax, Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality.

Benjamin has always been passionate about storytelling and brings that to life through his visual effects. He is careful not to use VFX for the sheer fun of using them but rather making sure they enhance overall story structure and plot. He has written several of his own scripts and has evolved his own knowledge of storytelling and production with the plan to move into directing. His big-picture focus on story, technology and workflow combined with his on-set experience and allows him to find unique solutions to any production/post roadblocks he encounters. He is also an active member of SMPTE and lends any free time he has to furthering his knowledge-base, developing personal projects and helping produce projects of his friends and Non-Profit Organizations.
